Al Terry Architecture got its start when friends asked for a design for a new home for their growing family.  Since then our work has consisted of residential and non-profit projects in the Puget Sound region.  When we work on a project with a client we try to accomplish three goals: create a place that fits the site; create a place of beauty that inspires; and balance the client's needs with their budget while treading lightly on the earth.

Founded in spring of 2000, our award winning studio is located in Seattle.  We are a full service architecture firm providing expertise in architectural design, site design, and sustainability.

The creation of an architectural project just like the formation of the Grand Canyon takes time - it's a process.  Architecture is a holistic endeavor but the process is linear.  These are the typical phases of work of many of our projects.  Of course some projects are smaller and the phases are often merged.

Pre-Design                    Establish a mutually agreed upon scope of work.

Schematic Design         Create a design concept for the project.

Design Development     Develop the design concept.

Contract Documents      Prepare the plans & specs for construction.

Contractor Selection      Assist the client in selecting the general contractor.

Construction Admin.      Work with the client & contractor to build the project.

Al blends art and function with design you never tire of.  His eye for material, color, setting, light, and right relationship with the earth result in unusual quality and attentiveness to construction.  He is a delight to work with from start to finish.    - Joan

Al drew up plans for a new dining room, carport and deck we added onto our home.  He listened to our ideas and helped turn them into reality.  We especially appreciated the way Al's design tied the inside space with the outside space.  We hope to hire him again to design our retirement home since he knows how to create the kind of energy-efficient, ecologically-friendly structure we want to fit organically into a beautiful property.     - Ruth

Al was wonderful to work with - taking our vision and putting it into a design that was even better than we imagined.  Through out the process, he made himself available to answer any questions we might have.     - Jo

Al is a great architect, pleasure to work with and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for high quality architectural services.    - Tatyana

Al redesigned my tiny 1925 kitchen into a much more functional room with tons more storage.  He helped me maximize the space available in the room.  The kitchen now feels like it is double the size of the old layout without changing the footprint of the room and he managed to least triple the amount of storage space.  Al is great to work with, he listens carefully, and is thoughtful about the solutions he presents.    - Fran

Al Terry is a highly conscientious Architect. He is pleasant to work with and takes care to integrate his client's practical needs and their budget, with quality design. He is also very knowledgeable about various building construction systems and details.     - Susan

Al provided services for plans and construction advice for our beach cabin remodel on Camano Island.  The work included a complete remodel of kitchen, bath, living room, porch and installation of 2 lofts (one dormer and one above porch).  The work was done on time and in the budget range we had agreed to.  we appreciate Al's practical approach toward solving problems, his knowledge of construction, and his toward design.  In addition, Al is up to date on new products and services available in the market which added to our satisfaction with the finished product.  We recommend Al for timely and client-oriented work.  Al will go the extra mile to be available to answer questions and tweak plans as necessary.    - LeeAnn
